We welcome our new PhD student Annika Bastian!
Her research will focus on Mg-based cement, which is a promising cement alternative with a lower carbon footprint.
We welcome Annika Bastian to our group as a new PhD student. Her research will focus on Mg-based cement, which is a promising cement alternative with a lower carbon footprint. However, their properties are not yet comparable with CaO-based cement, and, therefore, the use of superplasticizers is essential. Phosphorous- and carboxylic-based additives have shown a water-reducing effect for magnesium silicate cement, and this is why Annika will investigate the effects of these additives on the main Mg phases. She’ll synthesize them in an automated titration setup and analyze the final materials to understand how the additives influence the nucleation and properties of those phases. We wish her all the best in her research and are looking forward to her time with our group.
